The history of the Karelian-Finnish anti-communist resistance has many unexplored pages. Karelian uprising of 1921-1922. - One of them. This uprising is little known in wider circles, and yet at the time it was actively discussed at the level of the international community - in the League of Nations.

During the rebellion on the side of the Karelian people, who found himself the uncommon courage to fight against the Bolshevik occupation authorities, also fought Finnish volunteers, the most famous of which is major Tokkinen, who took the name of the Karelian epic hero Ilmarinen, and Paavo Talvela, who join the ranks of Karelian Army from the times of Olonetsky march 1919. Government of Finland and Estonia also has a political and diplomatic support to Karelian rebels. In addition, the rebels was supported by Russian Whites, for example battalion of sergeant Plekhanov, as well as a detachment of former Kronstadt sailors, who, after the defeat of the Kronstadt uprising in March 1921, became actively involved in the struggle against the Bolshevik government.

Armed conflict began November 6, 1921 with the outbreak of hostilities in Eastern Karelia. In the beginning the rebel groups numbering up to 2,500 people.
The uprising ended March 21, 1922 in Moscow, through signing of the Agreement between the Governments of the RSFSR and Finland to take measures to ensure the integrity of the Soviet-Finnish border.
