OCTOBER 21, 1933 - THE DEED OF MYKOLA LEMYK


The 21th October 1933 - the date of a lousedst attentat (a political murder) in the history of Ukraine freedom fighters' movement. On this day, the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (the OUN) member, an 18-years-old student-mathematician Mykola Lemyk in two shots eliminated a high-ranking VChK employe Oleksiy Maylov in the Soviet Consulate in Lviv in protest against the Holodomor in Ukraine.

Having done the execution, the young OUN fighter remined in place and calmly surrendered to the police in order to explain his actions on a trial and publicaly condemn the genocide of Ukrainian people, launced by the Soviet government, that is known now as the Holodomor. The reason of the murder Lemyk calmly explained to the policemen during detention. The young men also openly called ownself an OUN member, and said that he made those shots in the name of millions of Ukrainians who have fallen victim to the totalitarian regime.

With this step, the Ukraine freedom fighters of the Galicya tried to draw the world attention to the artificial famine arranged by the communist regime in the Ukrainian SSR.
