The Roskomnadzor (the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation) representatives have suggested to introduce a special software for electronic devices that will allow to identify internet users of public Wi-Fi networks throughout Russia.
This was stated in a presentation by Denis Peltsin, the chief of the department of control and supervision in the sphere of communication of the Roskomnadzor, as the Kommersant newspaper reported. Currently, according to the presentation, an internet user's identification is carried out by a MAC-address of a Wi-Fi router which is not tied to a particular subscriber device.
The Roskomnadzor employee has suggested using a specialized software, which binds a WI-FI router's MAC address with particular PC, leptop or tablet. It is assumed, that after installation and passage of an identification procedure the software will check a compliance of the entered identification data with the the information provided by a citizen when he was buying a SIM card, and bind a particular MAC-address with a user's identification data and a Wi-Fi router.
The Ministry of Communications has not yes commented the Roskomnadzor's proposal.
