LEONID ZHABOTINSKY, AN OUTSTANDING UKRAINIAN WEIGHTLIFTER HAS PASSED INTO ETERNITY

Leonid Jabotinskiy was born January 28, 1938 in Sumy region. Since childhood he fond of sports. In school Leonid engaged in Greco-Roman wrestling as well as athletics and boxing. Then, while working at the Kharkiv's Tractor Plant, he seriously took up weightlifting the guidance of coach Mikolaj Svetlichny.

On 1962, at the competitions in Helsinki, Finland, Jabotinskiy lifted 480 kg in amount and gained a victory in a heavyweight category.

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo he won a difficult duel with known athlete Yuri Vlasov and took gold. At the next Olympics in Mexico City in 1968 Leonid repeated his previous success - he lifted 572.5 kg. in sum of three exercises (bench press, push and jerk) and took first place.

Our legendary countryman has set 19 world records, 58 records of Ukraine and 20 records of the USSR.

Leonid Jabotinsky was an idol for many powerlifters and weightlifters all over the world, including for Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Unfortunately, January 14, 78-year-old athlete passed into eternity.
