BOMB ATTACK ON POLISH MEMORIAL LVIV - THE THIRD PARTY'S ANOTHER PROVOCATION
Not long ago, a memory march of the UPA chief commander Roman Shukhevych was held in Lviv under the slogan "The city of Lviv is not for the Polish lords," which was the Ukrainian nationalists' response to the actions of the city mayor Andriy Sadowy. As you know, in light of the Polish law on the National Memory Institute - which among other touches upon the issue of conflicts between the Ukrainian and Polish nation-liberation movements - the mayor of Lviv insisted on forbidding of setting the OUN red-black flag over the city's administrative buildings on the anniversaries of key dates on the Ukrainian nation-liberation struggle of XX century. An opinion dwells that shuch step of mr. Sadowy was an act of pandering to the Polish side.
Clearly, that such actions of the mayor had provoked an appropriate reaction by the patriotic forces of Lviv. In their political manifests the Ukrainian nationalists have always advocated the idea of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, although this principle has become increasingly difficult to implement in recent times.
On March 4, on the after-march meeting in the center of Lviv, representatives of the National Corps stressed that constant aggravation attention to the historical issues of the past would only worsen the relations between Ukrainians and Poles. If Poland constantly returns to the subject of the past, then one can expect a symmetrical reaction from Ukraine. This year's Roman Shukhevych March in Lviv was a sort of warning to the Polish government that reconciliation would never take place unilaterally.
At the same time the nationalists have always demonstrated own readiness for dialogue, which, in particular, was manifested in the appeal to the Lviv city authorities to save the sculptures of lions at the gates to the Polish Orlat Memorial. This appeal, in particular, was supported by Andriy Biletsky, the Azov movement leader.
On the night to March 14,an explosion thundered at the Orlat Cemetery (a memorial and a burial place for local Poles, who participated Ukrainian-Polish military conflict in Lviv), unknowns threw a grenade into the territory of the Polish memorial. This provocation is aimed only to discredit Ukrainian nationalists who, despite deteriorating relations, do not refuse to continue the dialogue.
The basic idea is obvious - to put the explosion in the line with the media-image of polonophobia, that is alegedy inherent to Ukrainian nationalists. However, all seem to have forgotten to ask the opinion of the nationalists themselves, who have already condemned this act of vandalism, treat it merely as a provocation aimed at further destabilization of Ukrainian-Polish relations and called on law enforcement agencies to immediately initiate investigative actions.
It is disgrace to fight with the dead and graves.
At the same time, Lviv branch of the National Corps movement announced its initiative on patrolling the Polish Memorials in order to prevent further provocations. Recall, it's not the first attack on the foreign memorials on the territory of western Ukraine. Noticeable, that in each particular case the vandals had been tied or directly guided by Moscow's influence structures. The latest incident happened in Uzhgorod just a month ago.
