IT'S NOTHING BUT MARGINALS' HANDWORK - UKRAINIAN HUNGARIANS OPPOSED THE 'SELF-DETERMINATION FOR ZAKARPATTIA' ACTION
The action for self-determination of Zakarpattia - that was held on October 13 near Ukrainine's conculate in Budapest - is nothing but a provocation, it does not reflects the opinion of majority in Hungary in general. Such statement was made by Tibor Tompa, a deputy chairman of the Kyiv Hungarian Society.
"There are three marginals behind this action, who have no relation to the Hungarian policy. They are local far-right radicals, who haven't been recognized in Hungary, and who are trying to attratct attention to themselves in this way. I must say, that definitely neither the Zakarpatia's Hungarians, nor people in Hungary are support it, bnut generally consider it a big provocation. The overwhelming majority of Hungarians aren'tr share such an opinion. There is not even a question at all to take this seriously." - he emphasized.
To the journalist's comparison of Crimea to Transcarpathia - all-sorts of stage "actions" had took place in the peninsula before the occupation - Tompa said that "there is a big difference"
"There is nothing in common with the Crimea in general. About 150 thousand Hungarians live in Transcarpathia in general, it is about 10% of whole the region's populationt. It goes without saing, that the majority of them are indifferent to politics at all. Hungary absolutelly doesn't need the Zakarpattia. So I think there's more fuss here than real actions. I made inquiries about these people: they are really a marginalized group, which has no real power behind. That is, all this is only to attract attention to themselves." - he added.
Recall, a group of few dozen people gathered near Ukraine's Consulate in Budapest on October 13 to the action named "Self-determination for Zakarpattia." The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has already sent a note of protest to the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
