AZOV REGIMENT'S "YEVHEN KONOVALETS SERGEANT SCHOOL" WAS OPENED IN KYIV
Sergeants are the core of every modern army in the world since their task is the training of personnel. however, their primary role has been almost completely neutralized in Ukrainian army since the Soviet times and now it results in numerous problems in the process of training and education of recruits, especially in the terms of a volunteer military formation. Therefore a sergeant school named after an outstanding commander of the Ukrainian Sich Rifleman and a leader of the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists Yevhen Konovalets was established by Azov regiment.
Andriy Biletsky, a leader of Azov movement emphasized the advantage of creation a sergeant school over periodical holding of sergeant courses: "We decided to refuse the idea of periodical holding of sergeant courses because of its unjustified extensiveness. In contrast, we decided to choose more optimal to achieve a higher level of junior officers' training - to found a sergeant school. By using a system of courses we can teach just one group. And later, after 5-7 months we would have to hire new instructors to educate new group. Moreover, in this case different groups will be studied by different methods. In result we will have sergeants with different education level and it could cause some misunderstandings."
About a half of the students of first group of the Konovalets Sergeant School will stay there as instructors. In this way the regiment is going to prepare its own instructors. Currently a number of foreign specialists are involved in the educational process, most of them are Georgian military, who have great combat experience (the country had passed through a number of military conflicts with Russia).
In addition, a large number of specialized foreign literature was translated into Ukrainian especially for the Konovalets Sergeant School.
A solemn ceremony of opening the military school was held on April 17 in the regiment's camp at the territory of the ATEK plant in Kiev. Exactly volunteer military formations have become a catalyst for the process of qualitative renewal of a national army in many European countries, especially those, who once faced with foreign invasion. Therefore, the establishment of this sort of military school is a good sign for Ukraine!
