STRUGGLE FOR THE SUMMER THEATRE IN ODESA: THE NATIONALISTS HAVE UNBLOCKED THE HISTORICAL THEATER'S TERRITORY

Previously we wrote about the struggle of nationalists for preserving the Summer Theater - a part of the Odesa City Garden - from being destroyed in favor of a mall. Previously we wrote about the struggle of nationalists for preserving the Summer Theater - a part of the Odesa's historical City Garden - from being destroyed in favor of a mall. Back in 2016, according to the city council decision the Summer Theater was transfered to a building firm of Volodimir Galanternik, a bussinesman related to the odious city mayor Genady Trukhanov.

Shortly after the first protest rally, that took place on November 14, the nationalists and local civic activists announced the next, more radical, action for November 18. At 12:00 on Saturday, the activists of C14, the Natsionalny Corpus, the Pravij Sector and indifferent citizens gathered at the entrance to the Summer Theater. The protesters were demanding to stop the illegal occupation of the theater territory by the building firm representatives. The protest gradually turned into clashes with police, who was trying to prevent the activists break into the theater's territory. 

As the result, the nationalists have managed to open the gates and unmount them at all.  At the same time, policemen used batons, tear gas and tried to disperse the demonstrators, but were thrown back. Subsequently, the activists made a symbolical act by bringing the dismantled gates under the walls of the Odessa City Council as a "present" to Gennady Trukhanov and his bussiness partner.

For long time the Summer Therater's territory has been closed for and gradually fell into disrepair. Now the activists are planning to return it a proper condition.
