The day of June 30, 1941 - the lesson for Ukrainian patriots of nowadays
Today the Ukrainian nationalists are writing new lines in poem called the "Ukrainian national-liberation struggle," but it is extremely important in such crucial moments to reread the pages, written by our predecessors. On June 30, 1941 The Declaration of Ukrainian Independence was solemnly declared by the leaders of the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists at the central street of Lviv, the city was finally liberated from Bolshevik plague this day. From the perspective of the present day, this historical event is not an ordinary date in the calendar, but a guide, a lesson for our further struggle.
First of all the Day of June 30 teaches us that the nationalist principles stand above of any political expediency.
Is only the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), leaded by Stepan Bandera sought for restoration of the national Ukrainian state? Absolutely not, but at the time when all sorts of liberals, liberal-democrats and liberal-nationalists were expecting a favor from the Germans, the OUN leadership shows a determination to fight for real independence and interests of Ukrainian nation. The nationalists even have received support of such keepers of European conservative ideals as Metropolitan Archbishop Andrey Sheptytsky of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Metropolitan Bishop Polikarp Sikorsky of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church and Bishop Hryhoriy Khomyshyn Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Ta the same time, all kind of liberal politicians have called such an independent ambitions as "reckless adventure" and "attempt to provoke the Germans", etc. The liberals considering the fact of proclamation the Independent Ukrainian State as something that is "not in time", they considered the actions of the nationalists as "youth romanticism", "maximalism", "unreasonableness" or even "sabotage" (yes, the Ukrainian liberals have also called Banderites as "the Kremlin's agents"at those times). But history has placed everything in its place ...
Ukrainian statehood, proclaimed by the OUN fell, but Banderites have gained a colossal moral wealth then, they have created a legend and have prepared a huge number of nationalists for anti-Bolshevik struggle despite mass criticism from "Reasonable politicians" and accusation in opening the anti-German front and "cooperation with Moscow". But exactly the Ukrainian nationalists - Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) as a military wing of the OUN political organisation, whose soldiers were tempered in battles with Germans, made the most strongest resistance to the Bolsheviks when the Germans began to lose the war (not because of the UPA resistance, but because of positioning itself as a higher race among the Eastern European nations, not as an ally of the oppressed peoples, enslaved by the Bolshevik forces). We should do not forget the fact the fire of anti-Bolshevik resistance burned all around Ukraine at a time when Communist Russia seized half of Europe.
Anyone, who have argues that OUN and the its ideas were defeated - is incompetent ranter or provocateur, just look at the volunteers who defending the freedom of Ukraine, look at their flags, chevrons, just listen their battle songs and slogans. Let this people realize whose ideas inspired the Ukrainian patriots to resistance of new wave of Neo-Bolshevism and the Cultural Marxism. Let them think about the wonders that a nation can create, inspired by a legendary past!
Exactly under the Red-Black flag - a sign of those, who announced the Declaration of Ukrainian Independence on June 30, of those who have organized the UPA - we fighting for our freedom of Ukrainian nation during all the period of our "semi-independence." Exactly under the Red-Black flag the Yanukovych's criminal regime was overthrown and exactly under this flag thousands of volunteers are going to the front now. It is Red-Black flag of struggle will bring a dignified life under the Blue-Yellow flag of true statehood and true freedom for Ukrainian nation.
The events of last two years have confirmed the lessons of history: it is strict adherence to a nationalist principles bring us the victories. The slogan "Bandits Get Out" was considered as a provocation at the beginning of the Maidan protest actions. Liberals from so-called "united opposition" were trying to turn protesters at a flock of sheep and unite them under the slogans like "Ukraine is EU" or other "EU integration" propagandist mottos. Instead, the Ukrainian nationalists talked about to need the elimination the Yanukovych's anti-national criminal regime and implementation of realy revolutionary changes. The members of liberal "opposition" called for dances instead of fight the regime of internal occupation. They did everything possible to distract the protesters from revolution activities and almost managed to euthanize us all, but eventually people followed us! Adherence to principles has justified itself!
The "Right Sector" all-Ukrainian volunteer corps (DUC) is another great example. We are managed to create really effective military structure almost from scratch. Of course, DUC has not changed the course of the war, but our guys have a number of serious tactical victories and no one cannot deny this. Moreover, a nationalist-volunteers prevented for many cases of surrender the Ukrainian territories, which have been provided as part of the so-called "truce agreements". All this - the result of enthusiasm and principles. the DUC has grown from the soil of strict adherence to principles, from our understanding the fact that we are fighting against the invader who must be destroyed, despite the government's nagging on "illegal armed groups", etc.
However, I have to admit that we made the mistake of believing in a ghostly "unity of pro-state forces" (by the price of our principles) which didn`t justify itself.
Glancing at the example of our predecessors and analyzed their achievements and defeats, we can make a convincing conclusion: ideology, perseverance, courage and integrity is the best weapon of a nationalist movement. Sometimes is really need to reckon with the situation, but it is very important to not loose the reason of struggle in the process of adaptation to the particular situation! The principal position is always rewarded, but seeds of these grains can germinate even after a half century. In turn, opportunism is always punishable with historical infertility.
