GENERAL KULCHYTSKY PRESENT!

Two years ago, on May 29, 2014 Major General Serhiy Kulchytsky died defending the Ukrainian land from the Kremlin-backed terrorists during the anti-terrorist operation in the city of Sloviansk.

Serhiy Kulchytsky was a Ukrainian military in the rank of Major General; a Head of the Department of Combat and Special Preparation of the Main Directorate of the National Guard of Ukraine. He was born in 1963 in the city of Weimar, Germany, in a military family. After some time Kulchytsky family moved to the Far East.

As was expected, since childhood young Serhiy had clearly determined on his future and choose the father's way. In 1981 he graduated from Ussuriysk Suvorov Military School, and in 1985 - Far Eastern Higher Military Command School. Later Serhiy Kulchytsky had served in conditions of Arctic for eight years. However, as soon as Ukraine became independent he decided to return to the ancestral land to serve in Ukraine's army.

General Kulchytsky was in the whirlwind of events since the beginning of fightings in Donbass, he had conducted combat trainings for volunteer recruits (mostly former participants of clashes with the Berkut employees during the events of Maidan) and participated combat operations in the frontline. On May 29, 2014 MI-8 helicopter with General Kulchytsky on board was downed by the Kremlin-backed terrorists near Karachun mount. That was his fourth combat sortie, and that had to be last one before a vacation...

In general, 12 people died on that day in that helicopter - six soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine, including the helicopter crew and six members of the special forces of MIA of Ukraine.

We would like to remember the names of other representatives of the National Guard, who died in that helicopter: Serhiy Buldovych - the helicopter crew commander; Major Vitaly Kurylowicz - a head of combat and special preparation of the 3024 military unit; Captain Serhiy Kravchenko - a senior board technician and Instructor of helicopter squadron of the 2269 military unit; Ensign Viktor Lipsky - an instructor (senior gunner) of gunner unit of the fire support platoon of the 3028 military unit; Ensign Valentine Biloshkurskiy - an instructor (senior gunner) of fire support platoon of the 2nd company of special purpose of the 3028 military unit. Glory to the heroes and ethernal memory!

On June 20, 2014 General Serhiy Kulchytskiy was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine except for military service to the Ukrainian state, heroism and self-sacrifice revealed in the defense of national sovereignty of Ukraine. A volunteer battalion, that General Kulchytsky had begun to form from the volunteers-former members of Maidan Self-Defence has been renamed to the General Kulchitsky battalion.

Streets in a number of Ukrainian cities were renamed in his honour. Kulchitsky grave at Lychakiv cemetery in Lviv is always full of flowers. What sort of man he was? Serhiy Kulchytsky was very sirence and comradely man; he loved his family and was fond of music (especially opera). Kulchitsky was a man with hands of gold, he was quite talanted mechanic.

"Dad" - that's how the recruits had called him! General Serhiy Kulchytsky was and is a symbol of the new Ukrainian army!
