UKRAINE, PSEUDO-UKRAINE AND THE PARADE OF ABSURD
The LGBT parade, that took place in Kyiv on June 12 has caused a wave of public condemnation among ordinary Ukrainians, who have expressed it in different ways from filing a public petition from Kyiv residents to the City Council with demand to cancel the "parade" to a direct action.
In general we can divide the events of that day on three parts:
- the LGBT action itself, that took place in the center of Kyiv, and that was held with support of the government;
- numerous facts of detentions of activists, who came to prevent to holding of the "parade;"
- the fact of the Defense Ministry's attempt to conceal information about the death of our soldiers at the Butovka mine that day.
However, the aforementioned events of June 12, 2016 are the key to a better understanding of the current situation in Ukraine.
The point is that there are two different Ukraine and two different realities we living in. On the one hand we have right Ukraine. A country, which people do not hope for help of so-called "Western allies," and who don't believe that "peaceful resolution of the conflict," being imposed upon us from West will really help us to back Crimea and Donbass. This is Ukraine of courageous volunteers, a country of ideologically motivated warriors of the Armed Forces, defenders of their people. This is Ukraine of people, which patriotism is something more than a trend. And this Ukraine is quite skeptical to a modern interpretation of the "European values" concept.
In other hand we see attempts to build different Ukrainian reality - the Ukraine, that the government has tried to create for last decade (pseudo-Ukraine). Now they changed their vector towards "Euro Integration/Western allies/European values (again, in its modern edition)/peaceful settlement." Concurrently the government likes to emphasize on big difference between modern democratic Ukraine and primitive, savage Russia. On June 12 Ukraine got a slap from its evil twin (the pseudo-Ukraine), who feel itself safe because is believes that those part of the MIA, who have agreed to protect the gay parade last Sunday, will disperse any anti-governmental protest in future. It also feels itself safe because of passive position of a part of society and appropriate discourse at media.
It's natural, that feeling of total impunity generates audacity. The homage to the volunteers, who fell in a battle at Butovka mine had not been payed yet, when the President expressed his condolences to the families of victims of the incident in Orlando's gay-club in his twitter. In its turn, the Ministry of Defence representatives continued to spread their lies on June 13, when they once again expressed misunderstanding of why the volunteers' unit was at the frontline.
Significantly, that Poroshenko's condolences in twitter have been supplemented with pompous words "We stand a united front against terrorism in the name of protection of fundamental values and human rights." In fact, the war that ongoing for three years in our country has been equated to a terrorist act, committed by a single terrorist for religious reasons. In other words the war (that ongoing for three years in our country) has been equated to a terrorist act (committed by a single terrorist for religious reasons) within a cargo cult. Another thing has to be clarifed is the term of "foundamental values," used by the president. The point is that there is a great posibility, that according to such point of view the Ukrainian nationalists-volunteers (with their inherent conservativism and religious morality) also could be equated to "terrorists-homophobes."
It is clear, that the second, artificial Ukraine I told above is a flawed state, which official government's actions are mainly based on the interests of foreign forces, not on its own people's will. The West adviced them to keep friendship with the Kremlin, and they do, they fulfill the conditions of the Minsk agreements and promote to conduction of the terrorists' elections in the occupied part of Donbass.
At the same time the first, true Ukraine buried its 6 defenders few days ago, as it had buried before thousand of those, who had not believed nor in the "Western partners" neither in the agreements with Moscow.
On that day, June 12, there was not just a "parade," but exactly a "pride" (as gays like to call their parades). The theater of absurd was passing the streets with great pride...
