INTERMARIUM - AN EAST EUROPEAN ALTERNATIVE

An issue of establishing a new and effective international security system became one of the top for the East European countries after Russia's invasion to Ukraine. Especially taking into account the fact that its previous version (the Budapesht memorandum) in deed became just an empty paper stack. and all international security guarantees, provided by the memorandum became a fiction in terms of real support when our country faced the foreign invasion.

Undoubtedly, in future preference must be given to development of exclusively own military forces, but now, in the current circumstances a priority in the early stages of building a new Ukrainian army is cooperation and learning of military practices and defense systems work in advanced countries. Since its independence our country has served as a buffer zone between Europe and Russia, and preservation of this situation will be utterly profitable for both the Western and Eastern geopolitical players.

In other words, there are two political vectors and both they are focused on the preservation of Ukraine as a gray area between Europe and Asia. However, we are, the Ukrainian nationalists, have completely different task - to transform Kyiv into an influential subject of international relations. After the outbreak of war in the Donbass we can note significant mobilization of military capacities in a number of countries bordering with Russia due to the the threat of the Ukrainian scenario implementation. In addition, there is urgent need of creation an effective international union against the background of NATO's passive policy towards Moscow and its clear messages on territorial claims to the countries - members of the alliance (Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia) as well as a number of threats, that the EU brings.

Thus, a military alliance between the countries of Baltic and Black Sea regions is the most effective way to preserve and strengthen the security of each country of Eastern Europe. Considering the Moscow's invasion to Ukraine and unreliability of the "Western partners" (refusal to fulfill the commitments given in the Budapest Memorandum) the East European nations have begun to strengthen themselves on their own. In general it is obvious that the European geopolitical power now concentrated on its east, and the formation of an East European Union bloc as an alternative to both cosmopolitan West and East is at the stage of active public debate and has its supporters.

The Baltic-Black Sea Union (BBSU) is quite plausible future. This union is really able to stop a chaos, that is looming on Europe from the East as well as a process of suicide of the Occidental world. Moreover, this union would became a strong perspectives in the economic sphere considering natural resource, industrial, technological and intellectual potential of its every particular member as well as advantageous geographical position and cultural ties. Another important aspect of the BBSU is a qualitative breakthrough in economic, demographic and military capabilities that has great perspectives to be implemented in life in result of its participants combining efforts.
Clearly, that joint work of capacities of the Intermarium zone countries would allow not just ensure the regional security at all levels and at all vectors. Thus, the Intermarium has all chances to become not just an alternative, but a powerful competitor to both the West and the Eurasianist geopolitical projects. And that is the first reason of growing aggression (in a frank and hidden forms) towards the East European countries from both pro-Moscow and pro-EU political figures.
