Today, on August 5 Croats are celebrating one of their most important holidays - the Victory Day (Dan pobjede i domovinske zahvalnosti i Dan hrvatskih branitelja).
The liberation of ancient Croatian city of Knin became a final accord in the Oluja (Storm) military operation of the Croatian war of 1991-95 and marked the full restoration of the state territorial integrity.

On the morning of August 5, around 9.30, the Craotian forces reached their greatest success of the operation: the 7th Guards Brigadeand the part of the 4th Guards Brigade entered the city of Knin, which was a capital of the self-proclaimed Serbian puppet "Serbian State."
The Croatian lesson is a very important and significant for Ukraine. Our homeland has faced a similar threat, like Croatia had faced in the begining of 90's. A separatist referendum, the lack of regular armed forces, contact groups and humiliating truce, which forced the country to recognize the Serbian autonomy. The stage of "frozen conflict" had opened a great opportunity for Croats to create a battle-worthy army. And when in May of 1994 the president of Croatia Franjo Tudjman received another plan of conflict resolution titled "Zagreb-4" from the representatives of the international contact group he steadily refused it, saying that he saw no peaceful solution to the problem... and the Storm had come...
