YESTERDAY GEORGIA, TODAY UKRAINE, WHO'S NEXT?
The 1st of August 2008 - on this day the pro-Russian separatist unrests were started in the Georgian regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. After a week they had escalated into a full-scale military confrontation with the Russia's direct participation. Today, remembering the Georgia defenders, we will not describe the conflict chronology once again. We are going to draw some parallels as well as emphasize how symbolic it is for Ukraine now.
As well as in Ukraine, numerous terrorists with the Russian citizenship had been involved into the Russian-Georgian conflict. As well as in Ukraine, the puppet "republics" of South Ossetia and Abkhazia were also opposed the official Tbilisi's intent to withdraw from the orbit of Kremlin's influence; in their accusations towards Georgia they were using mostly the quotes from the Russian propagandist resources.
On August 8, 2008, after announcement of public condemnation of the anti-terrorist operation, that had been launched by Georgia's government Russia invaded the country, while the West called for an unilateral ceasefire. Apparently, to declare capitulation is the best solution of a conflict according to the Western politicians, they have already proved it in Ukraine.
Nicolas Sarkozy, a Putin's friend, who had been holding the post of French president in 2008, was one of the key participants of the negotiations on the conflict resolution. The peace plan, developed by him consisted of six points:
1. No recourse to use violence between the protagonists.
2. The cessation of hostilities.
3. The granting of access to humanitarian aid.
4. The return of Georgian armed forces to their usual quarters.
5. Russian armed forces to withdraw to the positions held before the conflict began. Russian peacekeepers to implement additional security measures until an international monitoring mechanism is in place.
6. The opening of international discussions on the modalities of security and stability of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Subsequently this plan went down the history as the "Sarkozy Plan," in general it marked the success of the Kremlin-backed separatists. Commenting the Georgian conflict Lekh Kaczynski said: "All we understand well, that today Georgia, tomorrow Ukraine, then the Baltic states, and then the turn will come to my country - Poland."
Now the Western leaders have prepared new analogue of the "Sarkozy plan" for Ukraine - the "Morel plan" by which they are trying to convince Kyiv to legalize the Kremlin-backed "republics" constitutionally.
