HISTORICAL SHEVCHENKO'S HOUSE WAS DEMOLISHED IN RUSSIA TO BUILD A PARKING FOR A BANK
Taras Shevchenko's house in Orenburg, Russia, in which the great poet lived during his exile was demolished to build a car parking for local bank.
For over 40 years the building was listed in the state register of historical and cultural monuments of federal significance. However, recently Shevchenko's house was razed to the ground, on his place was builded a parking for the bank "Rus."
On this regard the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Vyacheslav Kirilenko noted that "Russia continue to implement barbarian policy regarding the entire Ukrainian."
Orenburg residents are also outraged by the demolition of the historical building. Local activists have already filled a claim on the parking builders. One of the activists Andrey Lisenko claims that those responsible for the demolition of the monument, have to restore its identical copy according to the law.
It's not the first action against the Ukrainian cultural objects in Russia. In the fall of 2015 the director of Ukrainian library in Moscow was detained for "extremism." Authorities in Moscow have detained the 58-year-old director of a well-known Ukrainian library for "inciting hatred" after a raid allegedly turned up "anti-Russian propaganda."
