LITHUANIA ANNOUNCED READINESS TO COMPLETELY CLOSE THE EXTERNAL BORDER


Lithuania is ready to completely close its border with the EU in the case of detection of uncontrolled flows of migrants near it. This was announced by Vice-Minister of Internal Affairs of Lithuania Elvinas Yankyavichyus.


"As regards the protection of the eastern border - we are ready to ensure it at different levels, and we can close our borders. Of course, the border guards can not do it alone, but it is an inter-agency direction, which includes itself police officers and employees of public security," said the deputy minister on Friday at a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee (PDC) of Lithuanian parliament.  

In general at the meeting was discussed the all-European agenda of issues in the field of migration. Particularly, the head of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service Renatas Pozela reported on deepening of cooperation with the Republic of Belarus and good relations with Belarus border guards. At the same time he noted that the situation with Russia remains difficult.
