"LONG LIVE BELARUS!" A MONUMENT TO FALLEN BELARUSIAN COMRADES OPENED IN KYIV
The ceremony of opening a monument to Belarusians fallen for Ukraine took place in Kyiv on on the 28th of March.
Establishing of the memorial was initiated by two volunteers - Olga Galchenko and Alexandra Voloshina, who initiated collection of funds and members of Kyiv community of the ATO veterans solved all legal issues regarding the memorial instalation.
The ceremony of opening the memorial was started with a performance of "Magutny Bozhe" (Almighty God), a song that has become a spiritual anthem for Belarusian nationalists, who were forced to leave the country after Bolshevik invasion. And this is quite symbolic because those people, Belarusian patriots, who came to Ukraine after the outbreak of the war and joined our struggle have automatically became political immigrants for their native country, since local Security Service (KGB) conciders every Belarusian nationalist considered as a threat.
"Belarusians are brotherly nation for us, Ukrainians, and they have already proved it! Belarusians have sacrificed best sons of their nation in struggle for the freedom of Ukraine. And Belarusian nation can expect for our helping hand!" - said Olexa Bick, a spokesman of Right Sector during the ceremony.
The memorial is a sculpture in the shape of a cross with the white and red colours - colours of the national flag of Belarus; the centre of the cross bears the historic Belarusian coat of arms – Pahonia.
The memorial is dedicated to Mikhail Zhyznevsky, a Belarusian nationalist who was killed by a sniper bullet on Hrushevskoho Street on January 22, 2014 during the events of Maidan and volunteers in the tactical Belarus unit of the Right Sector Volunteer Ukrainian Corps - Oles Cherkashyn and Vitaly Tilizhenko, who fought in Donetsk Oblast and died in the battle of Starohnativka in August 2015.
During the ceremony was also raised the issue on problems with obtaining the Ukrainian citizenship, that foreign volunteer have faced because of bureaucracy. We urge the government to stop defame Ukraine and simplify the process of granting citizenship for our foreign brothers in arms!
